Liveaboard Diving Similan Surin Richelieu Rock Burma, Phuket Phi Phi Hin Daeng
The
Hin Daeng/Hin Muang
Hin Daeng is located about 25km South of the Phi Phi
Islands and is easily found protruding about three meters
above the surface. The Southern side descends-straight down-to
over 60m forming the most radical vertical drop in Thailand's
seas and Mantas are frequent visitors. The wall is dotted
with growths of soft corals and sea fans inhabited by many
types of eels, sea horses, shrimp and pipe fish.
On the Eastern side where the slope is more gentle, two long
ridges descend into the blueness and if the currents are favorable
it is possible to swim along these ridges down to 40m or more.
Here the red soft coral that the Island is named after become
more lush and tall with huge schools of jacks sweeping past
the ridge, surrounding the diver with a shimmering wall of
silver. Barracudas and needle fish stalk their prey through
the clear water between the three large rocks that form the
surface view of Hin Daeng.
Hin Muang is located about 300m from Hin Daeng and
lies completely submerged about 3m below the surface. The
name comes from the thick purple soft corals that cover the
rock that is approximately 200m long and about 20m wide. Shaped
like an immense loaf of bread with steep vertical sides and
a rounded top the walls are decorated with large of red, white
and orange sea fans.
Well known for the consistent sightings of Mantas, Whale Sharks
and the rare Gray Reef Sharks. These two pinnacles are world
class and can be visited as part of a Phi Phi liveaboard or
as a longer combination trip including the Similan
Islands.
